The presentation will highlight issues affecting estate planning that arise during the divorce process.  We will focus on common errors clients make in completing their financial disclosure affidavits and common errors made in marital settlement agreements, as related to asset titling and beneficiary designations.

We will review special estate planning situations that should be addressed during a divorce, such as planning for children with special needs.  We will also review when estate planning documents should be reviewed and updated in connection with a divorce, and how divorce impacts existing planning documents and beneficiary designations.

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will be prepared to assist clients in properly disclosing asset and planning information at the outset of divorce.

2. Participants will understand when and which estate planning documents can be updated during a divorce.

3. Participants will learn how to help clients work towards more practical and estate-tax efficient settlements.
